The German invasion of Norway was a dramatically daring military operation. The decision to embark on the venture was made by Adolf Hitler as Chief of State  

The German army invaded Denmark offering an ultimatum demanding submission. To minimize Danish casualties at the hand of a superior German army, the Danish King Christian submitted. Although it was occupied by German troops, Denmark had not surrendered and remained a sovereign state. On April 9, 1940, neutral Denmark was invaded by German troops. Overwhelmed by the German war machine, the country put up minimal resistance at first. During the five-year occupation, an underground resistance developed to fight the Nazi rule. When Germany launched an invasion into Denmark and Norway on April 9th, 1940, the official Danish resistance lasted just two hours before King Christian X surrendered.
